The State open is one thing a coach looks forward to, too. It was one of the hardest things to win in the Connecticut. Especially for track, because you don’t just get to have all your athletes go there. You have to qualify. The way you are, you have to either win your event or B You have to be one of the top 14 athletes in your event, which is hard.
Bloomfield ended up qualifying for a good number of athletes. They were also in class. Which they blew out their competition. Which gave them a moment for the open, it all started with the throws, where Khile Francis won the shotput with 58’2 and Payton Sirdane with a 38’2 to place 2nd in girls shot.
But that wasn’t what the girl had to rely on. They rely on their jump squad where they all placed top 3 in the long with Vanesssa Agyemang with 18’11 to get first. Second with Saphyr brown with 18’8.75 third with April Nathenial with 18’3.5. Where gave huge points and helped them to pull away with the open. What else were there 4x200 relays with Jayhina Barclay, Saphyr Brown, Denna Spears, and D’asia who placed 1st and are the new number one in the state with a time of 1:42:33.
Then the hurdle squad placed some big points where D’asia Ducan and Vanessia placed 2nd with 8:16 and 3rd with 8:23. Then finally Soliegh with 5th place score in high jump with 5’2. While the boy had a hard-fought match, barely beating Lyman Hall by one point; it came down to the wire. Where get big point hurdles with Shaun Lazenby placing 3rd with a 7.52 and Javonni Reynolds placing 4th with 7.62. Then some more filed points were where Jessie Singleton wasn’t even projected to score points, where he placed 6 with huge points. Then the scored high jump with Ethan Rowe placing 2nd with 6’6 and Jessie Singleton Jr with 6”6 where they placed because Ethan got it on the first attempt while Jessie got it on his last.
But Lyman Hall came back swinging Where Aaron rich and Ethan Rich the twins who committed to University of Rhode Island placed 1 and 3rd in both high jump and long jump. Aaron won the long jump with a jump of 24’4.25 and Ethan placed 3rd with 23’0.25. Then in high it was the opposite where Ethan won high jump with jump of 6’8 and then Aaron got third where he got 6’6 where he got on his first attempt where the reason Ethan beat him was because he got 6’4 before Aaron.
Then Aaron Rich ran the 300-place 2nd with a time of 34.60. Where they scored 40 with all these points. It came down to 4x400 where Bloomfield was last heat. Where had place 4th or better. Hamden came with 3;24.79 which made hard because they placed 4th they would lose. They started with a bad start but ended with good final leg Javonni Reynold who ran the best race in this relay. Where they placed 4th with 3:27.87 where they Lyman Halll by one point.
After the meeting we talked to Garfield White who said “This is what you coach for. These big moments you teach your kids to have the resilient to come back to win. Which we teach all year. They all came and they were themselves which told them to be.” While Anne Burrows said “This is probably one of the best teams I have had. Where all my athletes come to practice and do their job. They know the assignment where they must do their job to win.” The last time to win double open was Danbury 2002. The question is now is this the best teams for both boys and girls to ever win it.
