The Grammy Awards are typically very controversial, of course considering it’s an award show. Everybody has different opinions and thoughts about who should’ve won. Album of the Year is the most controversial award. In 2023 Harry Styles won Album of the Year for his album ‘Harry’s House’. When he won, he got booed and of course some people yelled “Beyoncé should've won” . In 2024 Jay Z was accepting the award for the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award he goes on to mention the apparent “snub” Beyoncé has experienced.

Word for word he said, “I don't want to embarrass this young lady, but she has more Grammys than anyone and never won album of the year.” This year the winner for Album of the Year ended up being Beyoncé for her country album ‘Cowboy Carter’. This album was up against ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ by Taylor Swift, ‘New Blue Sun’ by André 3000, ‘Short n’ Sweet’ by Sabrina Carpenter, ‘BRAT’ by Charli XCX, ‘Djesse Vol. 4’ by Jacob Collier, ‘HIT ME HARD AND SOFT’ by Billie Eilish, and ‘The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess’ by Chappell Roan.

Many think that ‘HIT ME HARD AND SOFT’ by Billie Eilish should have won Album of the Year. Billie didn't win a single award for her album even though she had 7 nominations and the album had broken records and held the top spots for weeks from streaming. Many people also thought Taylor Swift should have won Album of the Year, however a lot of “Swifties” have also been vocal about the fact that Billie Eilish got snubbed. These two lost multiple awards to Kendrick Lamar for ‘Not like us’ his diss track against Drake.

This is a very controversial topic because of everything that had been going on in the media between Beyoncé, Jay Z, and Sean Combs, AKA P-Diddy. It is seen as very odd that Jay Z made that comment at the 2024 Grammys and then she happened to win the very next year even while it being assumed that they pay the grammy’s for her wins. Now Kendrick is being dragged into this because he was picked, by Jay Z, to play for the Superbowl Halftime Show. It is assumed that they had persuaded the voting members.

This is a big assumption because this year the Grammys decided to repeat over and over again that they now have 13,000 voting members in the Recording Academy. They only started saying this because of the rumors. Another point that made this year more controversial than previous years is that the viewers were constantly being asked to donate to the Fire Aid relief for the damages, many found this off putting as Trevor Noah was asking those who don't have a lot of money while in a room full of some of the richest and most successful people in this current time period.
