Whether you’re a Republican, Democratic, or member of a third party, it’s hard not to admit that Donald Trump is an unprofessional president. For the time being, let’s set aside Trump’s pre-election remarks, such as “Grab them by the pussy,” his comments on the former president’s birth certificate, and his statement that he’d date his daughter if they weren’t related.
Instead, let’s examine his Tweets and statements from his time in office.
First, he reportedly said, “if Hillary Clinton can’t satisfy her husband, what makes her think she can satisfy America…” Trump’s comment shows how little he respects women.
Some of Trump’s supporters are confirmed white supremacists. In response to the media’s and populace’s growing concern about this, Trump Tweeted, “My supporters are the smartest, strongest, hardest working and most loyal that we have seen in our country's history…it’s a beautiful thing to watch as we win elections and gather support from all over the country..best numbers ever.” By not calling out his supporters on their racism, he has made them more comfortable with their racism.
After George Floyd was murdered, people protested, including members of the BLM movement. This is Trump’s Tweet in response to the protests: “These THUGS are dishonoring the memory of George Floyd, and I won't let that happen.” Further, he said, “just spoke to Governor Tim Walz and told him that the military is with him all the way. Any difficulty and we will assume control but, when the looting starts, the shooting starts.” He called protestors “thugs,” but he called the white supremacists “very good people.” His threat to shoot American protestors is especially concerning.
Trump also revoked many of Obama’s policies, including abortion access, Obamacare, and trans rights, among others.
Throughout his presidency, Trump has often contradicted himself. And, it seems like everyone has gotten used to it. Many have ignored his unprofessional behaviors and have forgotten that this man is our president and supposed to represent our country.
What’s crazy is that Trump was impeached during his presidency and votes were still so close. This left many people in disbelief. The fact that Joe Biden did not win with flying colors goes to show that people of color, LGBTQ+, minorities, and people of low socioeconomic classes and their rights and struggles do not matter to many American voters.
